Solid platform, minor UI issue

Overall, Pipedream is a very capable platform for workflow automation. I've been using it for a few event-driven workflows, and the execution logs are quite detailed, which is helpful for debugging. The Python code steps integrated seamlessly with some existing scripts I had. My only minor gripe is that the UI for managing environment variables felt a little clunky at first; it took a moment to find where everything was. But once I got used to it, it was fine. Delivery of the service itself was instant, of course.

Reliable as always for integrations

This isn't my first time using Pipedream. I've relied on them for API integration across several projects now. This time, I set up a new workflow with the OpenAI API connector and it was just as smooth as my previous experiences. The custom auth has always been a strong point for me, very consistent. It's why I keep coming back, honestly.

Good for quick automations

I used Pipedream to connect a few APIs for a side project. It was pretty straightforward to get something working. The no-code triggers were really helpful to get started without much fuss. Everything just worked as expected.

Annual plan was a great deal

I was comparing Pipedream to a few other platforms like Zapier. The 20% off for the annual plan really sealed the deal for me. I needed something reliable for some API orchestration and the cost savings on the yearly subscription made it a much better value. I'm glad I went with it, it feels like I got a lot of bang for my buck.

Thinking of moving some of my Zapier workflows over to Pipedream. Mostly custom API integrations and some Slack notifications. Anyone made this switch recently? How was the learning curve?

R RohanK 7 hours ago ✓ Best Answer
I did it about 6 months ago for similar reasons. The custom code steps (Node.js for me) are miles better on Pipedream. Zapier always felt too restrictive for anything beyond basic connectors. Learning curve isn't bad if you're comfortable with code.

Good to know! I'm mostly Python, but Node.js is fine too. How's the error handling compared to Zapier?

T techfreak 7 hours ago
Pipedream's error handling and retry logic is pretty solid. Much more control than Zapier gives you.

Totally agree on the custom code. Zapier is like building with LEGOs, Pipedream is like having the full workshop.

Be prepared for a bit more setup initially, especially with auth. But once you get it configured, it's very powerful. The webhook debugger is a lifesaver.

Managed auth and OAuth management are pretty good though. Saves a lot of headaches.

I started with Pipedream and never used Zapier, but from what I hear, Pipedream is definitely more developer-friendly. The HTTP webhooks and serverless triggers are super flexible.
3
G Gaurav 7 hours ago
That's what I'm hoping for. Zapier gets expensive fast for custom stuff.

Yep, the pricing model is usually better for code-heavy workflows.

Just got hit with a higher renewal price on Pipedream this month. Anyone else seeing this or know why it jumped? My usage hasn't really changed.

S Sneha22 2 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Could it be related to compute credits? If you went over your included credits, that could add up.

P PriyaS 2 weeks ago
That's a good point! I didn't think of that. I'll check my usage logs.

Mine was definitely credit overages. Had a workflow go rogue for a bit.

Mine increased as well! I was on an annual plan and thought I was locked in. Had to check my billing statement twice. Maybe their annual discount terms changed?

D DeepakG 2 weeks ago
Same. I think the 20% off annual plans might have been a first-year thing for some of us.

Yeah, that's what support told me too. The introductory rate expired.

I'm still on the free tier, but I've been eyeing an upgrade. This makes me hesitant. Did you try contacting support about it?

Is pipedream better than Zapier? I'm currently using Zapier for some stuff but Pipedream looks more dev-friendly.

D Derek R. 1 month ago
Honestly, for simple stuff, Zapier is fine. But if you need to actually write some code or do more complex logic, Pipedream blows it out of the water. Zapier gets clunky fast.

R Raj K. 1 month ago
I switched from Zapier for a project that needed custom Python scripts. Pipedream was way easier to integrate that kind of stuff. If you're a dev, you'll probably like it more.

thinking about switching to annual billing to save some cash. Is it actually 20% cheaper or is that just marketing fluff?

M Mia Patel 1 month ago
It's legit 20% off. I did it last year and it's a decent saving over paying monthly.
6
C Colin N. 1 month ago
Can confirm, the annual discount is real. It's their standard way to encourage longer commitments. Definitely worth it if you plan to stick around.

hey, was thinking about trying Pipedream but kinda confused about the pricing. Is there a free tier or do you just jump straight into paying?

D David 1 month ago
Yeah, they have a pretty solid free tier actually. You can do a decent amount before you even need to think about paying.

A Alex H. 1 month ago
Exactly, I started with the free one and only upgraded after I had like 10 workflows running. It's not one of those 'free for 3 days' kinda deals.

Do they ever do coupon codes? Trying to sign up and wanna know if I should wait for a deal.

D Dan Osei 1 month ago
Not really, afaik. Their main discounts are for annual plans or if you're a startup. Public promo codes are super rare.
1
B Beth 1 month ago
Yeah, don't hold your breath for a random coupon. The annual billing discount is usually the best you'll get, or if you qualify for startup credits.

what if I go over my plan limits on invocations? does it just stop working or do they charge extra?

I Ivy 1 month ago
It usually gives you a warning first, but if you keep exceeding it, they'll often just pause your workflows until the next billing cycle or until you upgrade. They don't just hit you with surprise charges right away, which is nice.

R Ryan E. 1 month ago
From my experience, they notify you. It doesn't instantly shut everything down, but yeah, eventually stuff will stop running until you deal with it. Better to keep an eye on your usage.

I'm a student, do they have any special student discount or anything? Trying to build some projects.

T Todd D. 1 month ago
I think I saw something about student discounts. It's usually a specific program you have to apply for, not just a code you can punch in.
4
J Julia J. 1 month ago
Yes, they do! Check their site, it's not super obvious but if you dig around or ask support, they have a program for students. Good luck with your projects!
